Factory Car Stereo Repair

"Let's keep it original"

"Why is keeping it factory the best?"
(or at least a very good idea!)
Shouldn't I just buy a used one?

Odyssey Removal Tips

2000-2001 Stereo

Before you start this, read this whole paragraph and look to be sure it makes sense, and is identical to yours. Here is what I’ve found. I believe this is the same for the 2000 model also. We had a 2001 Odyssey in here a couple weeks ago (coins in it). Look this over and being careful, it looks doable. The dash part that goes around the stereo, holds the AC controls, and goes over near the Ignition switch. That whole assembly snaps off to expose the screws that hold the stereo in. Just know this IMPORTANT: If you take a regular screwdriver and pry on this piece, it will leave a permanent mark on the plastic or the interior. You have to move slow and carefully unsnap it to avoid this damage, also, before you start, you may already see marks from where the dealer took it off. I’m going to give you the best place to start, it’s over by the ignition, along the top where that seam is that goes from the ignition towards / above the AC controls. It’s a little hard to tell that it separates there, but look closely – it does. If you can get it unsnapped out from there and work your way a crossed the top, then down around the stereo until the piece is loose but the wires to the AC stay attached. This will allow you to move that dash piece enough to use a large Phillips and take out the 4 bolts that hold the stereo.

2005 Stereo

The dash part that goes below the stereo, holds the AC controls, and goes over near the Ignition switch. That whole assembly snaps off to expose the screws that hold the stereo in. Just know this IMPORTANT: If you take a regular screwdriver and pry on this piece, it will leave a permanent mark on the plastic or the interior. You have to move slow and carefully unsnap it to avoid this damage. We found that if you use a screwdriver and pry gently along the left and right bottom of this plastic piece, then the bottom section will pop out first. Once you get it started then it will easily unsnap (this is the large dash section from the ignition to the glovebox that has the AC display in the middle). Once it comes loose, then in order to move it out of the way, you need to unplug the switch for the back door light which is to the right of the ignition. With the emergency break on and the shifter in gear, you can easily move it over to the right or at least down some so that you can get to the 2 screws that hold the stereo bottom corners (L&R corners). We actually bring a phillips screwdriver up from under the dash piece that you unsnapped since those screws kind of face downward. The last bolt then holding the stereo in is under the stereo and back in about 8 inches deep. These bolts are 5/16 and you will need a 8+ inch extension to get to it. Once that is out then the stereo will slide out to the front and the connectors will all unplug. This odd shaped stereo will take special care and packing to ship without damage. Be sure to use a large box to allow 3 inches packing on all sides.
